Orion

I turn my head to the winter sky and all I can see are these three stars. They command my attention above all others: Mintaka, Alnilam and Alnitak. Orion's belt.

Lately I have started feeling annoyed with them. Orion is known as one of the most conspicuous constellations. Bright, easy to find--especially in the winter. But for some reason I feel like these stars are being selfish. Not only are they conspicuous but rude, flashy--boldly co-opting the night sky. taking it over. dominating. constantly stealing my gaze away from other, equally deserving and probably more fascinating constellations.

I need to resolve these negative feelings I have towards Orion. He will always be there after all.
Or else take some astronomy classes so I can start noticing other stars.

I love Orion because I can actually see it in the light polluted sky of Oahu.

I feel you've been too quick to dismiss the possibility of astrocide. All too often we see problems and then just resign ourselves to living with them instead of solving them.
